Twilio magic test number: +15005550006 always succeeds. +15005550001 simulates an invalid number.

STOP / HELP / Advanced Opt-Out — Staff Guide

Twilio and mobile carriers handle STOP opt-outs automatically at the platform level — no app code is needed for the core suppression. However, the following steps are required in Twilio Console to ensure proper HELP replies and full A2P compliance.

  1. Create a Messaging Service in Twilio Console → Messaging → Services, and paste the MS… SID into the field above.
  2. Enable Advanced Opt-Out on the Messaging Service: Console → Messaging → Services → [your service] → Opt-Out Management. Set custom STOP, HELP, and START reply messages.
  3. Configure the Inbound Webhook URL on the Messaging Service → Integrations → set "When a message comes in" to this app's twilioInboundWebhook function URL (find it in Dashboard → Code → Functions). Append ?secret=YOUR_SECRET and set TWILIO_WEBHOOK_SECRET in app secrets to match.
  4. Test with a real phone: text STOP to your Twilio number, verify Twilio's own STOP confirmation and no further messages arrive. Verify HELP returns your configured reply. Texting START re-enables Twilio's downstream sending capacity but does not auto re-enable this app's SMS consent — the member must opt back in through the app or a registration form first.

The app's twilioInboundWebhook function records STOP events at the app level, so opted-out registrants are not re-queued for reminders. It always returns empty TwiML — Twilio sends its own opt-out/HELP confirmation, so no duplicate reply is sent.
